Vic parties sending out postal vote forms

Victorians are being sent postal vote applications attached to political party material, prompting a warning from the electoral commission.

The Victorian Electoral Commission issued a statement on Wednesday night to clarify it did not issue the forms.

"If you have received a postal vote application in the mail enclosed with campaign material, it was not sent by the VEC, it was sent to you by a registered political party," Victorian Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said.

Political parties are permitted to distribute the applications with a letter or flyer so long as the two are not attached and the form hasn't been modified, the commissioner said.

"Any applications attached to or returned with political material received by the VEC will be rejected. It's a matter I take very seriously," Mr Gately said.

Online postal vote applications are available and must be submitted by 6pm on November 21.

The Victorian State election is on November 24.
