Vic Parmalat workers remain locked out

Workers remain locked out of a Victorian yoghurt factory three weeks after pay talks went sour.

About 65 workers were shut out of dairy giant Parmalat's Echuca factory on January 18 following six months of enterprise agreement talks between the company and unions.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union met Parmalat management at a Fair Work Commission hearing on Wednesday night, and says the meeting was productive.

"Although the union and company are still apart on some issues, we believe that progress is being made," the AMWU said on Thursday.

"Workers remain locked out from the factory, and as such are strongly committed to a just and fair resolution of this dispute."

The workers were not being paid and many have had to go to the bank to get a stay on their mortgage, the union said.
