Commemoration of the catastrophic Black Saturday bushfires is expected to take up a large part of Victorian parliament's first sitting day for 2019.

Both chambers of Spring Street resume on Tuesday, two days out from the 10th anniversary of the deadly bushfires, with MPs expected to devote a significant amount of time reflecting on the devastation.

The disaster killed 173 people, injured another 400, killed thousands of wildlife and razed properties.

Parliament sits for just two days this week, after holding a swearing in ceremony and formal opening proceedings in December, following Labor's return to power.

Labor was re-elected at the November election in a landslide win, holding an 11-seat majority in the lower house.
