Vic pair charged over organised crime

Australian law enforcement officials seem to have been caught up in serious drug trafficking offences that sparked multiple police raids in Melbourne.

A multi-agency Joint Organised Crime Taskforce charged a man and woman after a long-running investigation which included a number of search warrants executed in Thomastown, Gladstone Park and Richmond on Wednesday.

During the search warrants police seized cash, drugs, drug distribution equipment and luxury goods including watches and handbags.

The 30-year-old Thomastown man has been charged with trafficking and possessing a drug of dependence, knowingly dealing in the proceeds of crime, and theft of commonwealth property.

A 30-year-old Gladstone Park woman has been charged with knowingly dealing in the proceeds of crime and dealing in property reasonably suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

If found guilty they face a maximum 15 years imprisonment.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, Australian Federal Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.

The JOCTF, which comprises the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police, Australian Border Force and the Australian Crime Commission, works together to target organised crime in Victoria.

The Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity, that oversees the integrity of law enforcement agencies and their staff - including the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, was also involved in the investigation.
