Vic number plate set to fetch $100k
A number plate worth more than most cars is expected to sell for at least $100,000 in Melbourne on Monday night.
Christophe Boribon said part of the allure for the three-digit Victorian plate "180" was that it was a "nice" number.
"It's a pleasing number to look at for collectors," said Shannons Auctions national manager Christophe Boribon.
"If collectors get into a bidding war, it could go as high as mid-ones ($150,000)."
The number was first seen on Victorian roads prior to the First World War but the plate sold on Monday is not an original.
Another three-digit plate, bearing the number "297", is expected to go for around $75,000.
But that pales against the marquee lot - a 1959 Maserati Birdcage valued at $600,000.
