Vic MPs pledge rail projects, car parks

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Opposition Leader Matthew Guy on Monday continued a second week of campaigning ahead of the November 24 election.

WHERE THEY WENT:

* Daniel Andrews: Dandenong (Dandenong)

* Matthew Guy: Seaford (Carrum), Baxter (Hastings) and Bentleigh (Bentleigh)

WHAT THEY SAID:

* "Only Labor will deliver a fully-duplicated, level crossing-free Cranbourne line giving people in Melbourne's southeast the safe, fast and reliable public transport they deserve." - Daniel Andrews

* "It's not in this instance about the threat (of jail) and the deterrent, when it comes to child sex offences it's about the punishment and getting these people off the streets." - Matthew Guy on mandatory prison terms for child sex offenders

MONDAY'S PROMISES:

* Labor:

- Remove remaining four-level rail crossings on the Cranbourne line as part of its $6.6 billion promise to remove a further 25 crossings by 2025

- End a ban on alcohol licences imposed on some eastern Melbourne suburbs in the 1920s

* Liberal-Nationals:

- Child sex offenders to be subject to harsher mandatory jail sentences

- More car parking along the Frankston train line, including a $30 million-plus multi-level facility, as part of the coalition's $450 million rail project package.
