Vic man with gun in stolen Merc gets jail

A Melbourne man was using ice daily when police caught him with a loaded gun in a stolen Mercedes.

Badar Khodr, 37, was jailed on Monday for the drug-fuelled crime spree that unfolded in northern Victoria last November.

County Court Judge Barbara Cotterell said he had shown a complete disregard for the law.

"You put others at risk by the way you drove, you had a loaded firearm in the car and you placed the public at risk by your offending," she said.

Khodr told police he had the sawn-off rifle in his car when he was nabbed after speeding and driving erratically.

Police later found two pump action guns at his home.

At the time, he was using ice daily, the drug Liquid G weekly and antidepressants.

The court heard Khodr also served time in 24-lockdown at Port Phillip Prison due to the notoriety of his brother Mohammed Khodr, president of the Hells Angels Darkside Chapter.

Khodr, of Spotswood, was jailed for one year, which takes into account six months already served.

He also received a two-and-a-half year community correction order that includes drug treatment and mental health support.

He had pleaded guilty to charges including theft, possessing drugs of dependence and being a prohibited person to possess a firearm.

The court heard Khodr had an ice addiction for many years and suffered paranoia and hallucinations, but was now drug free and wanted to stay that way.

"The best protection the community can have is that you be rehabilitated," Judge Cotterell said.
