Vic man up tree with knife

A Melbourne woman says she was threatened by a man wielding a butcher's knife in a suburban park.

The man remained perched in a tree in Northcote's All Nations Park on Monday evening, with police having attempted to talk him down since about 1pm.

"There are no major concerns at this stage, we are just talking to him," a police spokeswoman said.

However, a woman called Kelly has told a radio station she was confronted by the man, and he threatened her with a butcher's knife.

"I saw him pull out something ... and then realised it was a butcher's knife ... about 30 centimetres (long)," she told 3AW radio.

"He said: `take another step and I'll kill you'".

Police said they had no information on the incident.
