Vic man sexually assaulted workmate's wife

A Victorian farm worker who sexually assaulted a workmate's wife almost got away with it until she recognised him years later when he visited her husband.

The man, who cannot be named as it could identify his victim, appeared before the Victorian County Court on Thursday after earlier pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault.

The man sexually assaulted the woman in 2012 after going to the couple's home to talk to her husband, prosecutor David Cordy said.

The woman had been watching TV with her daughter when she answered the door about 10.30pm on May 18, 2012.

"The accused asked the (woman) if her husband was home," the prosecutor said.

The woman told the man her husband was asleep, and the man asked her to come outside.

"The accused was talking to the (woman) but she couldn't understand what he was saying, and could smell alcohol on his breath," Mr Cordy said.

The man then grabbed the woman and pulled her away from the front door.

"The complainant was petrified," Mr Cordy said.

The man then removed the woman's pyjamas and indecently assaulted her.

Afterwards the 29-year-old man took out a cigarette and started smoking.

The woman went back inside in a state of shock. Her husband called police, who took DNA samples from her body and underwear, but no suspects were identified.

In 2015, the man went to the couple's home looking for the woman's husband.

The woman recognised him and called her husband.

When interviewed by police, the man denied having any sexual contact with the woman and consented to a DNA sample being taken.

The DNA matched the sample taken from her underwear three years earlier.

Mr Cordy said the man had previously been jailed for rape in similar circumstances.

"He is a danger to the sexual safety of members of the community," he said.

The man is due to be sentenced on December 20.
