A man charged with assault and false imprisonment after his wife's body was discovered in their Melbourne home has been remanded for 10 days while police investigate the death.

Mohamad Naddaf, 37, of Craigieburn, faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court dressed in a pink Mother's Day Classic T-shirt on Tuesday.

Police were called to the couple's home in the city's north just before 11am on Sunday where they discovered the body of Ashleigh Brown, 25.

No family members were present in court for the hearing.

Magistrate Luisa Bazzani remanded Naddaf until November 18.

"This will enable time for police to investigate the circumstances of your wife's death in order to determine if the charges are appropriate," she said.
