Vic man behind bars over car wash brawl

A driver who allegedly caused the death of a woman in a multi-car collision is also accused of using his car to injure a man during a brawl at a car wash in Melbourne.

The 24-year-old man was refused bail on Thursd and remanded into custody by the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on two counts of recklessly causing injury over the brawl in Maribyrnong on Sunday.

The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, allegedly injured a car wash staff member when he reversed towards him during the brawl on January 15.

Detective Senior Constable Owen Matthews said the man and an associate had dropped off their car to be washed but it was not ready when they returned.

"An argument ensued and the accused threw his cup at the manager," he told the court.

The manager left the office but was followed by the pair.

That's when a fight broke out and up to seven staff members armed themselves with bats, poles and upturned benches as weapons, the officer said.

"Up to 14 members are observed cornering the accused and his associate."

Matthews says at that point the 24-year-old allegedly got into his car and began "aggressively reversing the vehicle back into the crowd".

The manager was hit by the boot and landed on his tailbone.

Some of the incident was captured on CCTV, which was played to Magistrate Suzanne Cameron on Thursday.

DSC Matthews said the man is due to stand trial on serious driving offences, including culpable driving causing death after a woman died in 2015 following a multi-car collision, allegedly caused by the 24-year-old.

Magistrate Cameron said she was concerned by the man's behaviour behind the wheel.

"He continues to drive and drive badly," she said.

"It's self evident that he continues to commit offences while on bail."

The driver will return to court on February 16.
