Vic man jailed for imprisoning ex-partner

A Victorian man who dragged his ex-girlfriend into a car by her hair, repeatedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her has been jailed for at least 11 months.

Osman Dogru, 25, had an argument with his former partner at a medical clinic in February, during which he threatened her with a small knife.

The woman tried to escape when a bystander came to her aid, but Dogru dragged her by the hair to his car.

He then drove off at high speed on the wrong side of the road.

Dogru kept the woman with him for a number of hours, striking her to the head and threatening to kill her, before releasing her.

Victorian County Court Judge Meryl Sexton on Thursday sentenced Dogru to 23 months in jail, with a non-parole period of 11 months.

She said Dogru had treated his victim with total disrespect.

"Although the relationship was a difficult one, that's no excuse for treating a woman whom you said you loved with such violence and control," Judge Sexton said.

Dogru pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, intentionally causing injury and making a threat to kill.
