Vic man fronts court on arson deaths

A man has fronted court more than 12 months after he allegedly sparked a Melbourne fire that killed two people.

David John Campbell, 44, is charged with lighting a fire at a Deer Park home which killed a man and a woman.

Their bodies were found in the public housing property in the early morning of September 20 last year.

Campbell, of Tullamarine, is facing two counts each of committing arson causing death, criminal damage, reckless conduct endangering life and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

He was arrested on Thursday and appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court, where he made no application for bail.

He will face a committal mention hearing in the same court on January 14.
