A Victorian BMX rider is facing 201 charges alleging horrific sexual abuse against children aged 16 and under.

Fabian Roy Meharry, 27, of Echuca, is accused of using the internet to groom and procure girls under 16 for sexual activity.

He is accused of raping three of his 24 complainants and committing indecent acts, including multiple counts of sexual penetration against other girls under 16.

Meharry, who appeared in court via videolink from Port Phillip Prison, is also charged with 21 counts of making child pornography movies.

The extent of the abuse was revealed in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

The charges allege Meharry procured sex between an underage brother and sister and witnessed three children perform sex acts with dogs.

Meharry, who is known in the local BMX scene, also allegedly threatened to distribute intimate images of one of his underage victims.

The allegations relate to the period between 2012-2015 and took place in regional Victoria and Melbourne.

The court was told the prosecution and defence needed more time to prepare the "very unusual" and complex case, because it involved large volumes of material.

Magistrate Belinda Wallington adjourned the matter for a special mention on September 16.
