A man who drove himself to hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper body has been charged over an alleged shooting in Melbourne.

Nabil Maghnie, 40, drove to hospital despite his wounds at 1.20am on September 22 before later discharging himself.

The heavily armed Special Operations Group arrested him at a property in Epping at 3pm on Wednesday.

Echo Taskforce detectives charged him after an alleged shooting last week and an alleged affray in South Melbourne last month.

He has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing the proceeds of crime and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Maghnie was also charged with affray, unlawful assault and criminal damage following an incident in South Melbourne on 13 August.

He has been remanded in custody and will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
