A Victorian importer could be slapped with a million-dollar fine for importing banned cigarette lighters worth about $5 each.

Consumer Affairs Victoria sezied more than 2000 cigarette lighters shaped like high-top sneakers from a Moorabbin importer, the government said on Saturday.

Novelty cigarette lighters that can be mistaken for toys were banned across Australia in 2011, and companies who supply banned goods can face fines of up to $1.1 million, or $220,000 for individuals.
