Resignation over Vic Lib branch stacking

A Victorian Liberal staffer has resigned over branch stacking allegations just days before Malcolm Turnbull officially calls the federal election.

The party's administrative committee on Thursday night discussed allegations people had been signed up improperly in the Menzies seat of former defence minister Kevin Andrews.

AAP understands the issue involves less than 20 membership sign-ups.

News Corp Australia alleges signatures were forged and people were signed up to the party without their knowledge and that an electorate officer for Mr Andrews has resigned as a result of the allegations.

Victorian Liberal state director Simon Frost said the party did not comment on internal matters.

A spokeswoman for Mr Andrews said earlier on Friday it was "a matter for the Victorian Liberal Party" and has been contacted regarding the resignation of the electorate officer.
