Vic Labor must cut ties with CFMEU: Libs

The Victorian Labor party is facing calls to sever its links with the CFMEU following damning allegations of thuggery within the building and construction sector.

In its submission to the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption last year, Victoria Police said a "climate of fear" prevents victims and whistleblowers from speaking out against the crimes committed by union officials.

The report highlighted the use of outlaw bikie gangs as hired muscle for debt collection in Victoria's building industry.

Opposition industrial relations spokesman Robert Clark called on Premier Daniel Andrews to cut his party's ties with the union.

"It's clear that there's a very serious and ongoing problem with criminal involvement and activity within the CFMEU," he said on Friday.

"It's completely unacceptable for Premier Andrews to continue to take the money and the support of the CFMEU after this damning Victoria Police report."

The CFMEU, on Friday, denied the allegations and said it was not the job of police to engage in party politics.
