Victorian Labor boss Samuel Rae is expected to resign from his role to pursue a career in the private sector.

After three years in the job and running the party's successful re-election campaign, Mr Rae is expected to confirm his departure at Labor's administrative committee meeting on Thursday night, AAP understands.

His resignation comes amid big movements within the wider Labor party, with NSW boss Kaila Murnain suspended on Wednesday night soon after telling an anti-corruption hearing she knew about a potential illegal donation made to the ALP and federal secretary Noah Carroll resigning in July after the federal election loss.
