Vic grass fire now under control: CFA

Firefighters have brought a fast-moving grass fire in South Gippsland under control.

The CFA issued an emergency warning shortly after 5pm on Wednesday for The Gurdies-St Helier Road fire, but the threat was downgraded to watch and act level about 6.15pm.

The new warning affects the towns of Grantville, Kernot, St Helier and The Gurdies.

"Firefighters have stopped the spread of the bushfire in The Gurdies area at The Gurdies-St Helier Road, it is now under control," the CFA said.

"Firefighters will remain on scene for some time dealing with burning trees and residents need to be alert for fire trucks operating in the area."

At its height, 27 fire trucks were on the scene.
