Victoria's first woman governor has been recognised for her service by being appointed as a Companion to the Order of Australia, the top Australia Day Honour.

Linda Dessau was named governor of Victoria on July 1, 2015, and she has a long history of legal and community service.

"For eminent service to the people of Victoria through leadership roles in the judiciary, to the advancement of economic ties and business relationships, and as a supporter of charitable, sporting and arts organisations," her citation reads.
