Vic police charge 'Goldilocks' intruder

A young man has been charged after he broke into a Melbourne home and held a knife to the homeowner's throat after she found him asleep in the living room.

The 18-year-old was charged on Wednesday with burglary, criminal damage, assault with a weapon and threats to inflict serious injury over the break-in on December 29.

He was remanded into custody during an out-of-sessions hearing and will appear before Ringwood Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The man allegedly pulled a knife on Mel Christensen when she returned to the Donvale home with her husband, Tony, last Thursday to find the intruder in their bed.

The intruder had been dubbed a modern-day Goldilocks by Victoria Police after he dragged the couple's mattress into the living room and fell asleep under a doona.

The Christensens filmed the man as they woke him up about 11am.

There were others in the house and when Mr Christensen went to search for them, the man grabbed his wife and held a knife to her throat, police say.
