Vic freeway reopens after multi-car smash

A Melbourne freeway has reopened after a multi-car smash.

Six cars were involved but there were no reported injuries, a police spokeswoman said.

The Friday lunchtime smash closed all west-bound lanes on the South Gippsland Freeway in Hallam.

It was the fifth closure of a major Victorian freeway in just over a week.

It follows three fatalities that shut down the Mornington Peninsula and Monash freeways for hours on Monday and other emergency incidents affecting Melbourne's freeways last week.
