Vic firey uses garden hose to battle blaze

An off-duty fire fighter has used a garden hose to fight a house fire in Melbourne.

MFB station officer Chris Hare evacuated nearby residents from a home billowing black smoke in Fairfield at midday on Tuesday before grabbing a garden hose and getting to work while he waited for fire crews arrived.

The house was destroyed in the blaze.
