Vic fire reveals 200 cannabis plants

A transformer fire on a regional Victorian street has led police to find about 200 cannabis plants inside a house.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Golf Links Road at Ararat about 11pm on Saturday and as police did a door knock, the power went out.

The strong smell of marijuana from one home prompted them to search it, finding the plants in the empty home, with investigations continuing.
