Vic Fed Square set to glow for New Year

A kaleidoscope of colour will fill Melbourne's Federation Square on New Year's Eve.

Revellers have been asked to help set the square aglow by wearing their whites and brights under the specially installed UV lighting as they welcome in 2015.

Throughout the night visitors will learn a dance.

Then at the stroke of midnight, the band will lead the mass party in a dance.

Federation Square CEO Chris Brooks said there would be 10,000 glowing wrist bands handed out and create a unique visual moment for Melbourne, which he hoped the world could see.

"It will create a spectacular sea of waving hands during the evening and the countdown to midnight and the fireworks," Mr Brooks said.

"We're keen to have it embedded on the internet for world wide exposure of Melbourne and Fed Square."
