The body meant to manage the building of Melbourne's dumped East West Link has been disbanded.

The board, staff and management of the Linking Melbourne Authority have been told the body will wind up.

Employees will be offered redeployment within the Victorian government.

Treasurer Tim Pallas said staff had done their best on the project, but the $6.8 billion toll road had a flawed business case.

"Their skills will be better used helping the Andrews Labor government remove 50 of our most dangerous and congested level crossings and building the transport system Victorians voted for," Mr Pallas said.

The previous coalition government started work on the East West Link, but Labor promised to dump the project when it won the November state election.

Mr Pallas said the authority could be proud of its work on two other major road projects, Eastlink and Peninsula Link.
