A Victorian man jailed for injuring his girlfriend when he drunkenly crashed his vehicle says his sentence should be cut because it was her choice to get in the car.

Josip Spanjol was sentenced in 2015 to at least 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to negligently causing serious injury to his girlfriend, who was in the car when Spanjol lost control of it in 2014.

Spanjol appealed his sentence on the basis his girlfriend "contributed" to the negligent driving because she knew he was drunk, but the Court of Appeal dismissed this on Wednesday.
