Victoria is "the engine room of the national economy", its crowing Treasurer says, after leading the country in economic growth.

The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show Victoria's state final demand in the final quarter of 2016 was 1.7 per cent, higher than all other states.

"With the strongest growth rate of the states for the quarter, Victoria is once again the engine room of the national economy," Mr Pallas said on Wednesday.

Mr Pallas said Victoria's annual final demand growth for all of 2016 was 3.4 per cent, compared to the national figure of 2.1 per cent.

He took another whack at the federal government over infrastructure funding, with the latest figures showing Victoria gets just 7.7 per cent of the federal pie, compared to NSW's 30 per cent.

"While Malcolm Turnbull continues to short change Victorians, the Andrews Labor government is getting on and investing in our infrastructure," Mr Pallas said.
