Victoria's coastal towns are preparing for an influx of thousands of schoolies as police urge school leavers to celebrate safely.

Surf Coast, Mornington Peninsula and Bass Coast police are ready for the young Victorians, stepping up patrols on Saturday in and around licensed venues and popular accommodation sites.

Priority Communities Division Acting Commander Tim Hansen said police will focus on deterring excessive drinking, anti-social behaviour and urged schoolies to look out for each other.
