The Victorian coalition says it will invest $1.2 billion in new schools and upgrades if it wins the state election.

Premier Denis Napthine said the coalition would provide an additional $5.4 billion for primary and secondary schools, with $4.2 billion of that coming from the Gonski agreement with the federal government.

"We will invest $1.2 billion in new schools and school upgrades over the next four years because we know that having access to new, modern learning facilities helps young people reach their full potential," Dr Napthine said on Monday.

It would fund more than 200 school infrastructure projects around the state.
