Vic budget supports the vulnerable

Domestic violence victims, at-risk women and children and other vulnerable Victorians have not been forgotten in the state budget.

The state government has set aside $81.3 million in its 2015-16 budget to support domestic violence victims, including $57.9 million to protect a growing number of at-risk women and children.

A $16 million fund will deal with demand for services arising out of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, which is due to report in 2016.

Prevention of Family Violence Minister Fiona Richardson says continued support is about giving women and children the confidence to seek help.

Agencies supporting people fleeing domestic violence are set to get a $7.5 million immediate funding boost as part of a $212.8 million vulnerable families package.

Australia's first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner will be appointed and an LGBTI Taskforce created with a $3.2 million commitment.

People with disabilities, their families and carers and those who are homeless or facing homelessness will also receive additional support from the package.

It includes $151 million for an extra 830 Individual Support Packages for people with disabilities.

The budget allocates $117.8 million to mental health including 80 new complex care packages supporting people with severe mental illness.

Young people with eating disorders, Aboriginal Victorians and the LGBTI community will also receive funding through the budget.
