A second teenager has been charged with stealing an unmarked police car involved in a crash with a bus in Melbourne.

The 17-year-old was released from hospital on Monday and charged with theft of a motor car.

He and a 16-year-old boy who was allegedly at the wheel of the car suffered serious injuries when the car crashed into a bus on October 20.

The smash happened after a policeman spotted the car in Box Hill and approached it.

He had to jump clear as the car was driven away before it crashed and caused minor injuries to the bus driver.

The 16-year-old was charged last week with theft of police car, conduct endangering life, recklessly causing serious injury, and unlicensed driving, while the 17-year-old was charged with theft of a motor car.
