Vic beachgoers warned about bluebottles

Beachgoers have been warned to avoid potentially harmful bluebottle jellyfish that have been spotted around Melbourne's coastal areas and bays.

Parks Victoria issued the warning on Tuesday after the "sudden appearance" of large numbers of bluebottles washing up on beaches following easterly winds and currents over recent weeks.

Those stung by jellyfish can experience intense pain and respiratory distress.
