Vic Anzac Day auctions 'pretty ordinary'

Victorian laws could be changed to stop home auctions before 1pm on Anzac Day.

Premier Daniel Andrews is concerned about reports home auctions will be held on Saturday morning.

"It may be legal to be having auctions and things of that nature, but I think it's pretty ordinary," Mr Andrews said on Wednesday.

"We'll have a close look at this, obviously it's too late now, although of course those vendors could move the auction if they chose to.

"But the law won't be able to be changed between now and Saturday."

About 1200 auctions were completed last Saturday, but fewer than 100 are scheduled for Anzac Day, with 18 due to be held before 1pm.

A spokesman for the Real Estate Institute of Victoria said it was disappointing some vendors had ignored their advice about maintaining respect for the day.

Deputy Liberal leader David Hodgett said the traditions of Anzac day should be respected, but he wants the premier to consult before promising to make changes.
