Vic abuse dad faces long, lonely jail time

A Victorian man who violated his nieces and infant daughters faces a long and lonely time behind bars for crimes including child trafficking and incest.

The 49-year-old, who cannot be named, was ordered on Thursday to spend at least 15 years and six months in jail after pleading guilty to 37 offences that involved filming the abuse of his infant twin daughters.

The father started using his nieces to produce child exploitation material in 2009 when they were aged four and six.

He later paid $44,000 for an overseas surrogate to carry his twin daughters, who he began sexually abusing when they were one month old.

Following his arrest after police raided his property in November 2014 he said he knew he was stupid and sick.

The Victorian County Court heard his wife of 26 years, who was unaware of her husband's offending, said her life had been "totally devastated".

Judge Susan Cohen said the man would have a long and lonely time in prison, having destroyed his relationship with his wife and family by the grave violation of the children.
