Two teens charged over fake bomb threats

Two young men have been arrested for making hoax bomb threats to Australian schools.

Police say the 18-year-old Israeli man and the 17-year-old Victorian boy are unconnected.

The Israeli man was charged with making more than 2000 international robotic bomb and shooting hoax calls, including 591 to Australia, in which 128 of those were to Victoria from January last year.

The 18-year-old man's identity is subject to an Israeli suppression order as he was a minor when the alleged offending occurred.

He will be dealt with under Israeli law, and an application by the FBI to extradite him has been refused.

The 17-year-old Victorian boy faced court on Thursday after allegedly making 71 hoax bomb threats to schools in Victoria, NSW and South Australia between May 2016 and April 2017.

The teen is charged with nine counts of making a bomb hoax in Victoria, 13 counts of using a carriage service to make a hoax threat in NSW and 49 counts of the same charge in SA.

He was bailed until June 26.
