Two fires that broke out in the same suburb just ten minutes apart in Melbourne have resulted in four people being taken to hospital and a man arrested.

Firefighters were called to a unit fire at Tennyson Street, Clayton South at about 10pm on Monday, with police arresting a man a short time later.

He was also taken to hospital for assessment.

A woman and two children received minor injuries and were taken to hospital just 10 minutes after the first fire was reported, when a shed in nearby Culshaw Avenue caught alight.

Police say they do not think the two incidents are linked at this stage.

Two crime scenes have been established as police investigate the causes of both fires.
