Trolley boss allegedly exploits refugees

Two refugees were allegedly paid less than $10 an hour to collect trolleys, and their Victorian boss then tried to cover it up when questioned by authorities.

The men from Afghanistan and Pakistan were paid rates between $9.73 and $19.20 per hour as they collected trolleys in a shopping centre carpark in Bendigo, the Fair Work Ombudsman said on Friday.

The FWO has filed court action against trolley boss Jobanjeet Singh, who is also accused of giving investigators false records that overstated the rates actually being paid.
