Trains grind to a halt in Melb's city loop

Two trains ground to a halt in Melbourne's City Loop and passengers had to walk to safety.

An electrical fault just before 7pm on Sunday stopped one train near a tunnel in Richmond and the other train was halted underground short of the platform at Melbourne's Central station.

Passengers waited up to an hour to be escorted from the trains, those in Richmond needing to be transferred to a nearby tram.
