Needles in Vic train seat case in court

A teenager accused of planting 20 needles on a Melbourne train seat, puncturing an unsuspecting passenger's posterior, has briefly faced court.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced a Children's Court on Tuesday for charges including intentionally causing injury, assault with a weapon and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He also faces charges of recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault.

Supported by his mother and grandfather the teen was not required to speak in court.

The teen's lawyer said he was yet to receive material relevant to the case.

The boy's bail was extended and the matter was adjourned until February 5.

Anthony Artusa said he was on his way to work on January 8 when he felt something sharp jab him in the backside.

He was shocked, but has since been given the medical all-clear.

Police questioned another teen over the incident but on Tuesday said no one else had been charged.
