Toxic algae infests Bendigo waters

Bendigo residents are being warned to stay away from potentially toxic blue-green algae that has infested two local waterways.

The naturally occurring algae, which has bloomed on Lake Neangar and Kennington Reservoir, can result in skin rashes, itchiness, sore eyes, ears and nose or, if swallowed, cause nausea and vomiting.

Locals should heed warning signs and keep their dogs on leashes, the City of Bendigo says.
