Thieves steal soup kitchen van

A van used to deliver food to the homeless has been stolen from a charity.

Police say thieves stole a soup kitchen van from a Lilydale Church in Melbourne on Sunday night, as well as 10 swags, computer equipment, food and four slabs of soft drink.

The van, a Toyota HiAce with "Holy Fools" written on the side and back, was last seen in the Healesville area on Monday.

While homeless services throughout the Yarra Valley will continue, Holy Fools chief executive Neal Taylor said it was disappointing they had been targeted.

"It's a big inconvenience," Mr Taylor told AAP on Monday.

"It's taken us years to get all of this gear through grants. We only got the van last year."

It's the first time the charity has been targeted by thieves, who even stole a vacuum cleaner and the rubbish bin on Sunday, he said.
