TRAM WORKERS WALK OFF THE JOB.

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES:

* RTBU wants an 18 per cent wage increase over three years, and has rejected an offer of a nine per cent increase from Yarra Trams

* RTBU has also rejected additional one per cent in exchange for a 14-day roster

* Union is happy to accept a smaller increase but will not move on improved conditions for workers

* Yarra Trams is proposing shorter shifts, from eight hours to six

WHAT'S AGREED:

* A new trauma leave clause

* Extended carers leave

WHO'S AFFECTED:

* As many as 200,000 commuters are believed to be affected

* Trams stopped operating between 10am and 2pm

* Delays began from 8.30am

* Normal services are expected to resume by 5pm
