CAUSES?

* New snowfall, rain, or heat dislodges the snow

* Tuesday's warm weather and strong winds will increase the chance of avalanches in remote areas of Victoria's Alps

* Artificial triggers such as explosives, snowmobiles and skiers can also cause avalanches

WHO IS IN DANGER?

* Skiers, snowboards and anyone nearby

* A warning is in place for skiing, snowboarding, or hiking in remote areas of the Alps
