Test kits could 'save seshes', MPs told

After a nightmare New Year's Eve, one Victorian punter has told MPs it's time to make drug-testing kits more widely available to "save seshes".

In an official submission titled "Drug tests save seshes" to the state's drug law reform committee, the unnamed man describes a drug trip that went horribly wrong.

The man and his friends took what they thought was MDMA during a "sesh" - short for session - on December 31 last year.

But they discovered it was something far stronger when they kept blacking out and hallucinating.

"The next few hours could be considered an intricate form of torture," the man wrote in his submission.

The men ended up stuck in a friend's Thornbury house, unable to sleep while the hard drugs worked their way out of their systems.

"Jaws were everywhere, bodies were tired, brains rotted, lungs were slowly turned black, and the conversation moved incoherently, but remained vaguely angry at the fact we had found ourselves in this position," the man said.

He argued drug testing kits should be free or cheaply available so people know what they're taking.

"Had any of the crystalline power (sic) we snorted and ate been tested, our innocent and naive sesh would have been just a night out with the boys, instead of a PTSD inducing nightmare of a day."

The upper house law reform committee is looking at the effectiveness of laws, procedures and regulations relating to illicit and synthetic drugs, and the misuse of prescription medication.

The committee also received submissions from doctors, drug reform groups, and a tobacco company.

It is due to report back to parliament in March 2018.
