Teen charged over failed carjacking in Vic

A 14-year-old girl who is accused of wielding a knife during a failed carjacking in Melbourne has been charged.

The victim parked her car on Stanley Street at Collingwood when she was allegedly approached by the armed teenager before midnight on Friday, Victoria Police said.

The teen was wielding a knife, snatched the woman's car keys and jumped into the vehicle but was unable to start it, investigators were told.

The victim got into the car's passenger seat and retrieved the keys from the teen who fled and was found hiding underneath a car in nearby Wellington Street.

A Collingwood girl, 14, has been charged with attempted aggravated carjacking, recklessly causing injury and assault with a weapon.

She will appear at a childrens court at a later date and the victim received a minor hand injury.
