A young woman accused of killing a cyclist in Victoria's east has cried while facing court for the first time over the crash.

Emma Louise Kent, 24, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Gareth Davies at Macedon on December 10.

Mr Davies, 57, died in hospital hours after his bike was hit from behind on Black Forest Drive.

Kent also faces charges of dangerous driving, careless driving and failing to stay in her lane over Mr Davies' death.

Visibly upset, she was comforted by an older woman and her lawyer as she left court.

Kent, who is on bail, is due back in court on July 23.
