South Melbourne gym peppered by bullets

A gym in South Melbourne was hit with at least 12 gunshots while it was closed overnight.

Police say they arrived at the property, on Whiteman Street, shortly before 6.30am and found multiple bullet holes through the door and side of the building.

The gym was closed at the time and no one was injured.

Police have cordoned off the area while they continue to investigate.
