Snow transforms Victorian towns into winter wonderlands

Residents in a number of Victorian towns woke to a landscape of brilliant white this morning, with snow blanketing roads and parks.

Up to five centimetres of snow fell overnight in parts of Trentham, Daylesford and Mount Macedon, much to the delight of local families and children.

“We’ve been waiting all winter for this,” local Courtney Blundell told 9NEWS.

Video showed a substantial amount of snowfall dusting park benches in Mount Macedon.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said the wintry attraction was the result of good timing, with the coldest part of the day coinciding with early morning rain.

“We saw snow get down to around 650 metres, some flurries. But it seemed like the snow only stuck to surfaces about 700 or above,” Dean Narramore from the BoM told 9NEWS.

Unfortunately for a number of snowmen that have cropped up, the Bureau has said temperatures will warm up across the state towards the weekend.

Meanwhile, Melbourne is set to shiver  tonight as cloud cover clears, allowing temperatures to dip to about 5C.
